The Bulletin: September 9th, 2025
A Note from Anna
We are 17 days into the school year already! As we near the end of the second week of Foundational Knowledge, students are putting their brains into full gear as we explore content and synthesize how information in books or in math problems are related to their own world. In today’s Bulletin, you will find questions that will tap into your child’s TCS experience, a list of upcoming events, a sign up form for your first TCS-Family Meeting, and a note about a TCS family directory.
As always, please reach out if you have any questions. We are always here for you and your child.
Ask Your TCS Learner
What class read aloud did you enjoy recently?
Follow up with: How are your morning read alouds connected?
(hint: we are expanding our initial knowledge of neighborhoods)
What is a neighborhood?
(Looking ahead: Do you know what neighborhood you live in?)
What is a mathematician?
How do mathematicians count in organized ways?
(hint: we organize big numbers into groups of tens)
How are you practicing letters in your class?
(hint: we have daily Word Study lessons and handwriting practice)
What is a vowel? What is a consonant?
What is a kernel sentence?
What do you like to do during Playful Learning?
What healthy habit did you do this morning to get your brain ready for school?
Did you work with a friend at school today? What did you work on together?
What did you build with the straw barrels and 2x4s today? Did you run into any problems, and how did you solve them?
What did you discover in the woods or at the park this week?
Can you show me a four beat pattern?
What are you working on in the Innovation Lab?

“Homework”
We have two tasks for your children this month.
First, as part of Building Community (while it is a phase that we completed last week, this is an on-going part of TCS), we would love to add your family photos to our classroom. Please send in one photo that your child chose that they believe best represents their family. We look forward to seeing them on our walls!
Second, please send in a hat for those hot days that they spend outside! If these hats can stay in their lockers, that would be amazing.
Family-TCS meeting
Please sign up for a slot here
This is a virtual meeting on Google Meet for a conversation between the parents and TCS educators. Geoff Harrison, Adriana Mata, and Anna Yakabe will be present.
The purpose of this meeting is for the adults supporting a TCS student's learning journey to come together to check in on the student's intellectual, social, and emotional growth thus far in the school year.
Collecting Thoughts re: Family Directory
We have received feedback that it would be beneficial for families to have their contact info. Please email gharrison@tcsatx.org if you consent to sharing your information (email, phone number, or both) and we will go forward from there.
Last but not least…
Our very first Admissions tour is happening next Wednesday! If you know of any families that may be interested in applying to grades Kindergarten through 4th grade for next year, please let them know the sign ups are here!
